Deleting your workspace or moving on

Export first, then delete: how workspace deletion works, the 30-day recovery window, and what happens to evidence when you leave.

Leaving should be as clean as arriving. Whether you’re changing schools, done with the tool, or tidying up an experiment, the order of operations is always the same: export first, then delete.

Before anything else: export

Download your whole workspace: every submission’s evidence bundle plus roster and assignment CSVs, free, in one zip. Evidence deletion is genuinely permanent (that’s what tamper-evident means), so the export is the step you can’t do afterwards. If any submission might matter to a student later (an appeal, a disputed grade) its bundle belongs in the school’s records before your workspace goes anywhere.

Deleting a personal workspace

  1. 01From workspace settings, choose to delete the workspace. You’ll re-enter your password. This isn’t an action for a borrowed laptop’s open tab.
  2. 02A 30-day recovery window starts. The workspace deactivates immediately, and for 30 days you can change your mind. A recovery email shows you how. Nothing is destroyed yet.
  3. 03After 30 days, the workspace and its contents (classes, students, submissions, evidence) are removed from live systems. Encrypted backup copies age out on our rolling backup schedule in all regions — nightly backups retained for 30 days and monthly backups retained for 1 year. The full mechanics are in the Data Terms.

Smaller than a whole workspace

  • One student’s records (a parent request, an enrolment change): email hello@loam.inkand we’ll remove exactly that student’s data. Export their bundles first if the school needs them.
  • Individual submissions or classes can be deleted in the product without touching anything else.
  • Doing nothing is also fine. A dormant free workspace just sits there; old evidence expires on the normal 12-month schedule with the normal warnings, and long-dormant workspaces get warning emails before any cleanup of ours.

Leaving because the school is taking over?

Don’t delete anything. If your school is moving to the School plan, your workspace either becomes the school’s or is merged into it with your consent: the records transfer intact, which is better for your students than deletion and re-creation ever could be.

Student work and its evidence are academic records of the student and their school. Deleting your workspace deletes your copy of them. If the school still needs those records, hand over an export before the 30 days run out. We’d rather say this twice than have a student lose evidence to a teacher’s spring clean.

Still stuck? Email hello@loam.ink. On the Free plan we reply within 2–3 business days, Australian hours. School plans get faster. What to expect from support.
