Everything Loam records for you can leave Loam. Export is always free, on every plan, at any time: before a retention date, during one, after you’ve stopped using the product. Evidence you can’t take with you isn’t evidence; it’s a hostage.
Exporting one submission
From any submission, download its evidence bundle. The bundle is a record for an institution’s files: the final document and its SHA-256 fingerprint, the available edit history, and the server checkpoints retained for that submission. A recipient can recompute the document fingerprint, but the current HMAC checkpoint receipts are not public-key signatures and cannot be authenticated completely offline without Loam. Do not describe today’s bundle as an independently verifiable signature package.
Portable verified PDF (in development)
Loam is developing a separate, author-issued PDF whose proof travels in the same readable file. The author will choose one of three cumulative levels: verified document; writing evidence, which also includes document verification; or full replay, which includes all three layers. The portable format needs a new asymmetric export seal and a public signing-key trust bundle before a third party can verify it locally.
The signed claim will record the Loam account name at export. That is not the same as verifying someone’s legal identity, their sources, or the truth and originality of their ideas. Copying or converting the text into another document will not carry the proof. See the public verifier preview.
Exporting your whole workspace
From your workspace settings, choose “Download all my evidence”. You’ll get a zip containing an evidence bundle for every submission, plus your class rosters and assignments as CSV files. Depending on how much writing your classes have produced, it can take a little while to assemble.
When to export
- End of the school year. A whole-workspace export in your school’s records system is the tidy way to close a year, especially on the Free plan, where replay evidence expires 12 months after hand-in.
- The moment a case gets serious. If a submission is heading for a formal process, export its bundle then and there (and flag the submission with a dispute hold). The case file should hold the evidence, not a link to it.
- Before leaving. Changing schools or deleting your workspace: export first, always.
