If our pricing ever changes, this page changes first, the same promise we make about evidence: you can check it yourself.
Straight answers.
- Is the Free plan really free?
- Yes. One teacher, unlimited classes and students of your own, with the full evidence core: the sealed editor, replay, byte-for-byte verify and export. No card, no trial clock. A free workspace is never converted into a bill, and if we ever change what Free includes, the change will be prospective, with notice, and exporting your evidence is always free.
- How does graduated pricing work?
- Like a tax scale. Every school pays the same rates on the same bands: your first 100 students are $5.00 each per quarter, the next 400 are $3.50, the next 1,000 are $2.25, and everyone beyond 1,500 is $1.25. Nobody jumps a cliff by enrolling one more student: student 101 simply costs $3.50 instead of $5.00.
- What happens to our evidence at the end of the year on Free?
- Evidence is kept for 12 months from hand-in: long enough to cover the rest of any school year and its appeal season. We warn you well before anything expires, exporting everything is always free, and you can flag a disputed submission to hold it for as long as the dispute runs. School plans keep records to your school's records policy instead, seven years by default.
- We have five teachers on free accounts. Now what?
- That's usually the moment Loam stops being a teacher decision and becomes a school one. A School plan gives the institution one school-owned workspace, with records that stay under school administration when staff change. Contact us before creating duplicate classes or accounts. We will review the current setup and explain the available rollout path.
- Do students ever pay?
- Never. Students always write for free. The School plan is billed to the school; the Free plan is billed to no one.
- What counts as a student?
- A student rostered into an active class on Loam, not your total enrolment. For Australian schools, we take one roster snapshot on the census day of each school term. That academic census is separate from the price, which is billed quarterly.
- How does billing work?
- Quarterly (four invoices a year), with prices shown ex GST (GST is added on the invoice). The minimum invoice is $250 per quarter. Prefer one purchase order? Pay annually for 10% off. We can invoice against a PO. Schools don't need a credit card.
- Can we get a DPA and a security review?
- Yes. A data-processing agreement, our published subprocessor register and security-review support are part of the School plan. Our security page walks the whole evidence chain, written for the people who have to sign off.
